As a lover of Vintage clothes, especially the 60's style, I am very excited to be attending my first vintage fair right here in Nottingham! I will be documenting my day on this blog to show off what goodies I find or even end up taking home! I have also decided to start off a online vintage shop, either on eBay or a website. This fair will be a great event for research for the shop! Stay tuned for more info and pics!

Lecture with Burberry - Greg Stogdon
Earlier on today I attended a Q + A lecture with Greg Stogdon - part of the creative media team at Burberry. Greg told us how he started like me, a FCP student trying to break his way into the business. By gaining internships from an early stage at his degree he was able to gain skills and learn new techniques in which increased his employability. He told us to get our ideas out there, dont go for the obvious choices, take risks and challenge the industry. A question which stood out for me was 'What do you look for in a graduate?', Greg, being a graduate himself told us how he succeeded with the company and that we should always have a focus. The key is to show what you believe in, make your portfolio understandable; understand the culture, the focus and the ideas, and most importantly be a good person.
Overall the talk was one of the most inspiring lectures. It was refreshing to see such a grounded team working for a major iconic brand. So motivating to actually succeed in life.

Maison Martin Margiela: Project 2
Before completing my power point presentation, I wanted to research and get to know the brand a bit more. I decided to start a compiling my research and findings to the form of a sketch book for me to work on throughout the making of my presentation.
After the seminar with Tim, I started to play around with multi-media and layering images. To portray a style of Margiela I took different images of the minimalism street style and tore them in half, I then layered them on top of a contrasting image to create a more visually interesting image.

MMM - making of presentation
After our seminar with Tim Rundle, our group was inspired to think about how Margiela would put together a powerpoint of his own. Our idea was to take different materials such as acetate, card and paper and dip it in paint (white and black), tear bits up and re stick them together or collage bits of materials together to give a rough look with the use of multi-media.
Samples
spreading white acrylic paint over brown leather. We used our finger tips to dab the paint on, then tried fading the colour out and lastly used a coin to create the iconic crack effect.
We then used a piece of acetate and dripped black paint onto it. After adding water to the paint we then used a straw to blow the colour away from the center creating a paint splat effect.
We then tried dabbing the paint onto the acteate from the tube of paint, firstly creating a paint smudge then printing small dots with a mix of white.
Examples of samples
We also tried painting white onto textured fabric and using keys/coins to scratch off the paint, creating a crackle effect.
We also tried out the same technique with shiny black card, but instead using our finger nails to scratch off the paint.
The group experimenting
Me experimenting with acetate and paint.
With the mess we made on the plastic coverings we placed a black piece of card under it to create visual contrast as it portrayed the iconic crackle effect.
